“Megan,” I croaked. “What, twitch, brings you, twitch-twitch, here?”

“I want to learn to fly.”

“Didn’t you hear what I just told Wall Street? I can’t fly.”

“That’s okay,” she sighed dreamily.

“So … ,” I said, trying to swallow. But my mouth had grown as dry as a cotton ball in the Sahara under a heat lamp. “… if I can’t teach you to fly, what can I do for you?”

She produced a twenty-dollar bill. “You can take my money.”

“For what?”

“For letting me stand in your presence.”

Repeat in the twitch department. “But-“

“Sold!” Wall Street said, snatching the money from her hand. “At a buck a minute, that means you can stand there for twenty minutes!”

“For what?!” I repeated.

“For a taste of heaven,” Megan sighed.

My twitchings went into overtime. I tried to protest, but it did no good. Between Megan’s wanting to spend money and Wall Street’s wanting to take it, I was outnumbered. So there we stood for twenty minutes in my front yard doing absolutely nothing. Well, nothing except snapping, sighing, … and twitching.
